Welcome from the District 1 Commissioner
District 1 is the smallest and most unique district in the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) and includes the northern tip of the San Francisco Bay peninsula: San Francisco, Daly City, Colma, Pacifica, San Bruno, South San Francisco, and Brisbane. Most of District 1 is a dense urban environment where often the biggest challenge is finding a place to practice or play. Nonetheless, our CYSA affiliated leagues offer soccer year round - traditional fall leagues, several rapidly growing spring leagues, and a summer league.
The District Administration is composed of a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers working together to offer new and better opportunities for youth soccer.
District 1 teams participate in all CYSA programs. We have four leagues representing all levels of skill including recreation and development, competitive and premier. Many of our teams participate in statewide tournaments and programs such as the State and Association Cup, the Olympic Development Program, and the State Playing League.
Since World Cup 1994, the number of registered youth players in District 1 has more than doubled. This amount of growth presents real problems in an area with scant undeveloped real estate. Recent renovations by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department have provided some of the best soccer fields in Northern California, but there are a multitude of both youth and adult ground sports vying for their use.
Most league play is recreational, and teams may participate in more than one league. Competitive teams play in leagues outside of District 1.
The Mission Youth Soccer League plays June to August, with competitive (Class 1) and developmental (Class 3/4) brackets in most age groups.
The San Francisco Vikings Youth Soccer League plays September to December and is comprised of developmental (Class 4) teams to U14.
The San Francisco Police Activities League (PAL) plays April and May and has brackets for competitive and developmental teams in a variety of ages.
The South San Francisco United Youth Soccer League has developmental (Class 4) soccer in the autumn and spring for U6 to U12.
Sincerely,
Ilona Montoya, District 1 Commissioner
